Welcome to our Spotlight Series where we will be sharing something FAB about cities in our great D.FW…starting from A-Z.
Seventh Stop: Celina! Celina is on State Highway 289 and Farm Road 455, fifteen miles northwest of McKinney and twelve miles north of Frisco in northwestern Collin County. It was established in 1879 and named by John T. Mulkey for his native town, Celina, Tennessee.
As in all communities, the establishment of a school is of utmost importance. The first school was a small wooden structure that was in the neighborhood of the Jeff Malone residence. In 1906, a 2 story brick school building was completed on the campus where the Celina Independent School District Administrative offices are now. In 1915, this school was destroyed by fire. In 1916, another 2 story brick building with a basement was finished and school began in it. This
school was torn down and a new one completed and dedicated in April of 1943. This is the building presently being used for the CISD Administrative Offices.
Today, it’s an exhilarating time in Celina! Currently, estimated at 11,000, the City of Celina’s population has nearly doubled since 2010. This pace makes Celina one of the fastest growing cities in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Situated in high-growth Collin County and nestled between the major arteries of Preston Road to the east and the future Dallas North Tollway to the west, Celina’s maximum projected buildout population is approximately 350,000.
In other words, Celina is positioned geographically, demographically and economically to quickly become a big player in the North Texas metropolitan community.
Celina’s median household income is $92,000, with an average home value of $287,000. Residents are only minutes away from Frisco’s “$5 Billion Mile,” major hospitals, and the top-ranked Prosper and Celina school districts.
Celina is a such a beautiful town with many shopping, dining and recreational things to enjoy. There are even vineyards close by. Celina has a high livability rate according to www.areavibes.com.
